It’s been a pretty slow period for restaurant news, but here are a few things that caught my eye: Michael Russell over at The Oregonian reports that Chef Jake Martin is returning to Portland from Seattle to take over as Chef de Cuisine at Genoa. He’ll be working with Executive Chef David Anderson. You may – Read more…
The neighbors off of SW Macadam can breathe better without all the wood smoke from the smokers at Reo’s Ribs. There were complaints when he first opened. In fact his smoke caused visibility problems with traffic a couple of times until he put in a really tall smokestack. Now all of this is moot, as the – Read more…
I have a ton of stuff that I’ve Twittered/Facebooked about over the past month, but haven’t felt well enough to sit down and write a post. There is so much news here you may need to take a nap to get through it. Let’s see how far I can get. I promise to quit Twittering – Read more…
Barista, Billy Wilson’s new coffee shop is now open in the old Acorn spot at 539 NW 13th street. He’s got some beautiful equipment including a stunning vacuum pot, and coffee from Stumptown, Ecco Cafe and Chicago’s Intelligentsia – you can pick which bean you want them to use. It’s really interesting comparing the differences. Along with building-out and opening the shop, he’s getting ready for the United States
A new coffeehouse is to open in the space last occupied by Acorn, or before that, Little Wing Cafe. Why is this news? Because it is owned by Billy Wilson, formerly of Albina Press, currently of Coffeehouse NW. Billy is known for having a large following of coffee aficionados, and for winning the NW Barista Competition. It will be called Barista.
Lucier R.I.P.? That’s the rumor. I don’t normally post these things until the doors are locked, but I’ve been deluged with reports that they will close their doors on Saturday night.
This is only news because Lucier tries so hard to be perfect, and because they try so hard, fall so short. After all the pre-publicity and self-aggrandizing, the oncoming crash of this restaurant is as loud as a jet.
I haven’t had many complimentary things to say about their food, Willamette Week wasn’t particularly nice, calling it The Trophy Wife, but Karen Brooks has destroyed them with her well written review.

It’s been a while, but good things come to those who wait! News, News, News (and gossip!)
Lots of openings: Cacao has opened their 2nd location, this in the corner of The Heathman. It’s a charming shop in a perfect location (and I almost never use the word “charming”.)
The eagerly anticipated Lincoln Restaurant will be opening on NE Williams this Friday. We hope to have a sample menu posted soon.
