You may recognize Adam Sappington as the denim overall wearin’ chef behind The Country Cat’s Whole Hog Plate, or know him for his gutsy precision at the butcher’s table. But did you know that chef/butcher Adam Sappington cooks and carves a mean turkey, too?  This Thanksgiving Day, Adam will do just that…for you…at The Country Cat Dinnerhouse & Bar.

On Thursday, November 25, Adam and Jackie Sappington are preparing a $40 Thanksgiving feast served in the comfort of their Montavilla restaurant The Country Cat Dinnerhouse & Bar, and they’re inviting you, family and friends.  Staying true to the Sappington tradition, Adam is serving dishes that have been in his family for two generations, like his Brined, Smoked & Braised Turkey with Granny Criss’ Stuffing and “The Judy,” a spread of Longhorn Cheddar Cheese, Beer, Tabasco Sauce and Onion.  Vegetarian options and kids menu are available upon request.

If you want to cook a delicious Thanksgiving dinner without the stress and long lines at the grocery store,  In Good Taste has the solution.

The day before Thanksgiving, November 24,  from 1 PM to 5PM, Executive Chef Jeremy Niehuss will teach a hands-on class designed to help you serve a delicious traditional meal for two to six people.  No need to stand in line at the grocery store because In Good Taste will do the shopping for you.  With Chef Jeremy’s adept guidance you will prep, prepare, and make ready your take-home Thanksgiving to be finished in your own home the next day.

With minimal work on Thanksgiving Day, you can relax with your guests while the wonderful aromas of a homemade dinner whet your appetites.  The make-ahead menu includes traditional side dishes as well as instruction on brining a turkey breast to roast on Thanksgiving Day. You will even bake a pie from scratch with extra pastry to take home. Students are instructed to bring their own containers and a cooler for transporting the meal back home.

Urban Farmer Restaurant and Executive Chef Matt Christianson are celebrating Thanksgiving Day weekend this year with a special three-course, prix fixe dinner on Thanksgiving, followed by the restaurant’s popular weekend-style brunch on “Black Friday” and throughout the weekend. Urban Farmer focuses on sustainable practices by serving meats, poultry, seafood and produce garnered from the efforts of local ranchers, farmers and fisherman committed to changing Portland dining and the way our world harvests food.

Thanksgiving Dinner, which will be served from 12 noon until 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, features three courses — salad, entrée, four sides for the table, and dessert — inspired by Northwest bounty and the theme of “Enjoy Our Home This Thanksgiving.”  Guests will be able to choose from several selections for each of the Thanksgiving Dinner courses. Each table will also receive a selection of festive side dishes served family style and alongside the entrée selections.

    The list is very short this year. In spite of multiple notices, I didn’t get many submissions, and assume restaurants either haven’t been making enough money to make the effort worthwhile, or the economy is getting better enough that they feel they don’t need to be open.
