By PDX Food Dude Last Update January 16, 2014 20 Comments

For those of you in the mood to argue today (there seem to be quite a few), we have Phil Stanford weighing in on the Jim Dixon "not salty enough" Castagna Restaurant controversy. You may remember, Jim reviewed Castagna and claimed everything was under-salted. The owners were so upset, they delivered a 50 pound bag of salt to the Willamette Week offices. Phil ties the review … [Read more...] about Phil Stanford vs. Jim Dixon, The Salt Wars!

    Saucebox Restaurant

Beleaguered Saucebox Restaurant Chef Adam Kekahuna is out. From Johnathan Nicholas column in the Oregonian today (you didn't think I'd miss this did you?), comes news that Chris Israel is now the permanent chef at Saucebox Restaurant, taking place of chef Adam Kekahuna who is leaving to "spend more time with his family".I have to admit, I'm feeling a bit sad. Adam was … [Read more...] about Saucebox Restaurant Chef to “Spend more time with family.”

Habit tells him: “Yes, I use the column as an initiative to get … [Read more...] about Restaurant ads made to look like reviews for restaurants – that buy ad-space

I know it seems like I keep picking on the Ripe group, but to tell the truth, the things they come up with are so silly I just can't help it. If the food wasn't darn good, I wouldn't bother, but I think they can take a little poking. As you may have read, Ripe now has a "Writer in Residence" named Matthew Stadler. He writes in a rather pompous, overbearing fashion. One of … [Read more...] about More on Gotham Tavern’s Table Cards – Now with Examples!

Gotham Tavern Hires House Writer to Compose Table Cards

By PDX Food Dude Last Update November 22, 2010 41 Comments

I really wasn't going to say anything. It seems to me they have been given enough publicity. Then someone pointed out they need a break from the tragedy going on in the South. Six other readers emailed similar thoughts. So, with a few accompanying comments from your editor, here is part of the latest publicity email from (you guessed it) --- Ripe/Gotham. Occasional essays will … [Read more...] about Gotham Tavern Hires House Writer to Compose Table Cards
