April 8, 2015 by PDX Food Dude 3 Comments

The first time I asked what is the Best Vietnamese Restaurant in Portland, it seemed to be on an upswing. It seemed like everyone was a fan of pho. These days we have so many other options it feels like the cuisine isn’t as popular as it used to be, but judging by the number of votes cast, it still has lots of fans.

1175 votes cast:

1. Luc Lac Vietnamese Kitchen – 19.15% $-$$

  • A wide ranging menu of Vietnamese food, including a variety of pho. Popular with the downtown lunch crowd.

  • 2013: Pho Van, Luc Lac, HA & VL, Pho Oregon, Pho Hung
  • 2012: Pho Van, Ha & VL, Luc Lac
  • 2011: Pho Van, Silk, HA&VL, Pho An

Favorite comments:

  • Pho Van: “ignore the dirt – it’s worth it”
  • The herb plate at Pho An cannot be defeated
  • Fish sauce is underrated and no one really knows how much they care about the details they put into the food. Luc Lac will probably win due to popularity and willingness to adjust to the masses

Best Baguette has a second location in Beaverton on Hall Blvd. They have a bigger ? menu and it is consistently great.

When I ate at Pho Van in Beaverton my face was badly swollen the next day. Use much MSG? I’d put a vote in for Vivi’s – they don’t use MSG.

I LOVE Vietnamese food and regularly go to Pho Oregon. I also like the Pho Hung on Powell. But Vivi’s in Hillsboro is by far my favorite, and glad it is close to work. They have a pho called Hu Tieu Bo Sate that I have not found anywhere else. It is amazingly tasty. And their Pho Ga is made with organic chicken breast. To top it off, the entire staff is incredibly friendly. But prepare for long wait times for a table at lunch.
