Beast Holds Fundraising Dinner Supporting Fight for Seeds Savers Exchange

June 7, 2013 by PDX Food Dude Leave a Comment

I am a strong proponent of Seeds Savers Exchange, so this press release from Beast caught my eye. 100% of the proceeds go to the organization.

Beast, along with leadership joining us in Portland from the Seed Savers Exchange in Iowa, will be hosting a very special fundraising dinner for that organization on Monday June 17th. In the name of protecting our future crop diversity and the in support of the ongoing fight against the genetic modification of our food supply, we hope that you will join us.

On May 25th, millions of people in over 400 cities across the world marched against Monsanto. Media coverage was polite, if superficial.

In the face of such disinterest, and the advent of the next news cycle, it bears repeating that one of the most powerful ways we can express our feeling on a subject is by indicating where our values lie by engaging our pocketbooks in the larger conversation. To that end, we invite you to join us for this one-night-only 5 course meal, with 100% of proceeds going to Seed Savers Exchange. Beginning with an introductory hour featuring heirloom-crop centered appetizers and a featured Seed Savers Cocktail by bartender Kyle Linden Webster, the evening will then continue with a seated dinner and wine pairings.

We will be focusing the entire menu on items brought in from Seed Savers. If you would like to learn more about Seed Savers Exchange you can do so by clicking here.

Having lost over 50% of our genetic diversity in food crops so far, and even more than that percentage of our small family farms, we believe that it’s time to put our money where our mouths are. Beast has already donated over $25,000 to the Seed Savers Exchange, an organization that works tirelessly to protect the genetic diversity of our food, in direct opposition to the ongoing, ruinous practices of Monsanto and Industrial Agribusiness as a whole.

***Please join us on Monday June 17th at 7pm at Beast. This is a reservation only, $400.00 per person benefit.*** Reservations are available here.

(A vegetarian Meal will be provided with 48 hours notice)

7 pm cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, Silent auction with items donated from local businesses at 7:30pm. Dinner begins at 7:45pm.
100% of the proceeds from your ticket will help to insure that Seed Savers can continue to conserve and promote America’s culturally diverse, but gravely endangered food crop heritage for future generations by collecting, growing, and sharing heirloom seeds and plants.

We thank you for your support. If you are unable to attend, but like us, are passionate about this cause, please consider passing this invitation on to someone who can.

We can’t think of a better or more delicious way to fight the good fight!

Thanks.
