2009 “Beerku” Beer Haiku Winner

By PDX Food Dude Last Update April 20, 2018

Beer glassWe have run many food haiku contests, but this year we settled on haiku about beer.

Our 2009 Beer haiku contest proved to be very popular. We had a large panel of judges, and thanks to you readers, every entry received at least one vote. Though the results were tight, the top choices are clear.

Runner Ups

By Les:
Happy bubbles spring
Into summer beer joy hops
Fall into the clouds

Humble Pie:
Cheap yellow beer child,
I played Deschutes and ladders
ain’t been the same since

Clinton:
It is at two pints
that he feels himself transformed
from damp clay to god

The winner by one vote is:

Karen:
Willamette hops taste
like summer: green flowers bright
and sharp as sunlight

Karen has won two tickets to the Sagebrush Classic Feast on July 18th in Bend! The proceeds from this event benefit Central Oregon children and families. I’m happy to support this good cause.

I just wanted to express my gratitude for this prize. My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time at the feast! The setting, music, weather and — most of all — food and drink were superb. It was a wonderful excuse to get out of Portland and go off the diet for a day. Thank you to the judges and sponsors.

Great! I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed the event. When I saw how hot it was, I wondered how the event would be.

Looks like we will run the same sort of contest next year.
