Bernie’s Southern Bistro Closing October 7th

September 11, 2018 by PDX Food Dude Leave a Comment

Portland Institution, Bernie’s Southern Bistro is closing

Bernie's Southern Bistro outdoor diningPer the Portland Mercury, Bernie’s Southern Bistro closes on October 7th.

From Bernie’s Facebook page,

Dear Bernie’s friends/community/framily/fans… today I must deliver some very sad news. Bernie’s will be closing. The last day of business will be Sunday, October 7. Please be sure to come in often between now and then and give us a hug, check in, get a fried chicken fix…share with us what you love most about Bernie’s! Our old building needs some pretty extensive repairs and to achieve that we would have several months closure and then a considerably higher rent upon completion, so it’s time to close this chapter. I currently do not have a backup plan but will be working on that ASAP. I am so grateful for the love and support from our community for the past 20+ years, it fills my heart beyond words. COME SEE US! And spread the word! Kellie

Though the restaurant pales compared to the way it used to be* it holds fond memories for me as it was the first restaurant I discovered in Portland that has a great patio. The restaurant, which opened in 1998 was a popular spot for blackened catfish, fried chicken, and pork chops as well as desserts such as bananas foster.

Drop by and show them some love before Bernie’s closes; we still have some great patio days ahead!

*I feel its pain. I need some pretty extensive repairs too.
