Boyds Coffee Locations Closing

July 21, 2011 by PDX Food Dude 6 Comments

UPDATED:

Boyds Coffee has confirmed they are closing their Portland stores. However, they will be opening a mobile truck. See the poster below. Coffee will still be available at their Roastery coffee shop on Sandy Blvd. Employees were notified last night. I have confirmed that the Pearl District store is one of them, but am not sure which others are also being shuttered. Boyds, a local coffee roaster, has three stores, one in the Pearl District at 404 NW 11th Ave., one at 1229 SW 10th Ave. in the Elliot Tower, and in the Roastery at 19730 NE Sandy Blvd.

I’m sure it’s FAR more profitable to operate their wholesale business side (lower overhead, bigger profits), BUT such short notice indicates something’s VERY much amiss! It’s interesting because they’re another company that is typically looking to fill their marketing positions every 3-4 months…makes you wonder.

Mobile trucks are on the rise. They are cheaper to maintain and cheaper to produce. You just need to find the right place/route to set up. Good luck to them!
