USA Today asked a “local expert” from each state to pick a favorite “burger joint”. For Oregon, Portland’s Country Cat was the top choice.
The Country Cat Heritage Burger in Portland rests deliciously at the intersection of old-fashioned familiarity and gourmet excellence. It begins life as 6 ounces of USDA prime grass-fed beef, custom-cooked and capped with pan-melted jack cheese, shredded romaine lettuce and lively garlic aioli, then sandwiched inside a toasted French onion bun baked daily on site. Chef Adam Sappington accompanies his masterpiece with a molehill of buttermilk-soaked, flour-dredged onion rings. 7937 Southeast Stark St.;503-408-1414.

So much for MetroVino and Gruner and the others – although I love’em all!

No fries, just the best onion rings in town.
Pearl District says
It’s true. They are the best onion rings in town. But they serve so many of them that one must be careful not to eat too many! Country Cat has really come into its own in the last year. Nice to see that restaurant finally getting some love.

Love their Steelhead Benedict – the Lemon Hollandaise is amazing. And the Bloody Mary is great too! Guess we’ll have to give the burger a try now.

I’ve often said that one of the best deals in town is the Country Cat’s burger with onion rings. That plate of rings anywhere else would be at least $6… accompanied by an amazing burger with cheese melted in the pan. It’s even to fun watch them plate it with such care.
