Do Large Ice Cubes in Cocktails Melt More Slowly? Is Ice Bad for Scotch?

By PDX Food Dude Last Update March 12, 2014 1 Comment

CocktailThis week SeriousEats.com plunged into Cocktail Science with “5 Myths About Ice, Debunked” by new writer Kevin Liu of Science Fare. For those who have spent time staring at a cocktail wondering whether those large ice cubes make a difference, this article is for you. It talks about what makes ice cloudy and how to make it clear, whether it is ok to add ice to Scotch,  if egg-based drinks benefit from a “dry shake”, and if shaking a martini really “Bruises” the gin. Serious Eats is one of my favorite food sites, and I just added Science Fare to my list too. Good reading.

Make my Old Fashion with a big cube and I’m happy to sip (w/o diluting a good bourbon)…….especially with the rising cost of cocktails.
Beaker and Flask had that nailed.
