Sad news today from Bar Avignon. Here is the announcement from their newsletter –

Dear Everyone,
Bar Avignon is closing. After over a decade of serving Portland from our little corner on Division, our last night of service will be this New Years Eve, December 31st.
Over the years, many people have worked tirelessly with us to create this wonderful restaurant and we are proud of what they have accomplished. For all of these people we are grateful. It would not have been possible to come this far without them. Or without you. Our friends. Our family. Thank you and thank you again for choosing to share your special occasions with us. There have been so many. So many weddings and birthdays, anniversaries and graduations. A restaurant can only hope to be as good as the community it creates: we think we did pretty damn good. We are honored to be a part of your lives.
And we are honored to have known our dear and sweet co-founder, Randy, and to be a part of his legacy. Bar Avignon was his pride and joy; a dream fulfilled. If you asked him, he would have told you, “I’ve never worked so hard to create a janitorial position for myself.”
And it’s true. We couldn’t have done it without you, Randy. You are the Puller of the Corks. The Changer of the Light Bulbs. Under your watchful eye, no wine glass went unpolished. Randy, if Bar Avignon is somehow greater than the sum of its parts, it’s only because of you. Thank you.
Please join us over the next few days. We would like to invite you to celebrate what you helped us to do. Come share a drink. Or your favorite memory. Or both. And come say goodbye to Bar Avignon with us.

The restaurant was founded in 2008 by Randy Goodman and Nancy Hunt, offering a seasonal menu and a good selection of wine and wine flights. There isn’t much time left, so if you are a fan, be sure to go by and say goodbye.

FYI to anyone who has a reservation at Bar Avignon for NYE – they closed ahead of schedule. We had a reservation tonight (12/30) and there was a sign on the door that said “we are closed for good”.

Notified employees they’d be fired three days after Christmas. Absolutely no regard for the crew that sacrificed a lot for this owner.
