Beaverton Bakery RIP

September 28, 2018 by PDX Food Dude 1 Comment

Sorry we're closed signA note on the Beaverton Bakery Facebook page yesterday has brought moans of disbelief from fans-

We are sad to say that after 93 years, the Schubert family has decided to close the Beaverton Bakery. It has been a very difficult decision and the Bakery has loved being a part of this community.

This weekend will be our last and we are no longer taking any orders, but we are working with the baking community to ensure all wedding cake orders will be filled. We are contacting brides and grooms personally to discuss the situation with them. Carrie Schubert has been working to make this transition as smooth as possible and we will not be leaving anyone in the lurch.

Thank you so much for letting us be a part of your family’s traditions and celebrations.

And today –

Dear friends, thank you so much for your love and support. We were overwhelmed by the people who stopped by and have run out of product. We are officially closed. Thank you for all the years as part of your community and your traditions

Over the years the quality at Beaverton Bakery seems to have declined, but I hate to see any local bakery closed. Some of my best childhood memories are of going to Becker’s Bakery in Manhattan Beach, CA every Saturday with my parents to pick out pastries for Sunday breakfast. To this day, when I’m in the area I stop by to reinforce the memories. Of course if a Danish happens to fall into my bag, it seems rude to complain.

This story was first spotted by the folks at The Oregonian.

So pleased to have scored one last Almond Roca cake on my 60th birthday in July. I remember having one for my 30th birthday too. It’s hard to see the places you loved as a kid go away. I can say that they had IRS problems in recent years (tax liens), which frequently indicates more fundamental financial difficulties. Whatever the case, the BB will be missed by us new old-timers.
