Manzana Rotisserie Grill at NW 12th and Glisan has closed
I’ve heard they were the lowest performing restaurant in the HUGE Pacific Coast Restaurants family (I think they own 19 chains nationwide. As we speculated quite some time ago, they will be reopening as Palomino Restaurant Rotisseria. The website describes it as
“Palomino is the upbeat city restaurant and bar famous for its rich and stylish ambiance. Guests love Palomino’s European-inspired regional American Cuisine. Only Palomino offers such a versatile menu in extraordinary surroundings at reasonable prices. Palomino. Upbeat City Dining.”
Looking at the menu at the Seattle location, it looks pretty much like a Macaroni Grill, but with fairly high prices. $36 for a steak, $23 for short ribs, $26 for sea bass… hmm. Even a Caesar salad with chicken runs $14.
Ok then. Good luck on that.
Followup: Palomino closed in 2009.

“Reasonable prices”?? Heh.
The Manzana down in Lake Oswego was doing brisk business when I was in — let’s see, a week and a half ago now, so presumably the brand is still alive.

$14 for a plate of spaghetti & tomato sauce seems a bit high to me. If I’m going to splurge at a fancy place, it probably won’t be a corporate chain. Nor will it be for a $14 plate of pasta.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that Oba is right next door and is a much, much better option??

Palomino is the kind of formula place people think is unique to their city, yet it is indeed a chain. That they are expanding to Portland confirms my theory. This is good news for Oba! or any other independent, Portland-owned eatery nearby. Unfortunately, visitors may see the familiar Palimino pony, and much like they flock to PF Chang’s.

I heard rumors the Manzana in Lake Oswego will undergo the same change.
It definitely has gone downhill since the new group took them over. The food isn’t near as good. Even the bartender admitted that to me once when I complained that they changed their amazing chicken wings.
The menu you describe seems more like another very overpriced (especially in this economy) place of theirs, Stanfords. Who needs two of those?
