Oregon is shut out of the 2016 James Beard Awards

Is the bloom off the rose? Perhaps Portland is experiencing some backlash after years of good press. Here are the final results out of the 20 original 2016 James Beard Awards nominations that we started with:

Justin Woodward of Castagna restaurant, and Greg Denton and Gabrielle Quiñónez Denton of OX restaurant, were nominated for Best Chef: Northwest. The award went to Renée Erickson, The Whale Wins in Seattle.

Clyde Common was nominated for Outstanding Bar Program. The award went to Maison Premiere, Brooklyn, NY.

Jackie and Adam Sappington from Portland’s The Country Cat, were nominated for a James Beard Foundation award for their book, Heartlandia: Heritage Recipes.

You can see all of the national award results here.

BUT … the James Beard Foundation IS making Portland one of the 10 cities on its 2016 Taste America tour. Lots of local chefs will be recognized, which hopefully will raise the profile for 2017!
