Beaterville Cafe to Close

May 21, 2014 by PDX Food Dude 2 Comments

Beaterville Cafe PortlandThe popular Beaterville Cafe Lubritorium Bar at 2201 NE Killingsworth, is closing on the 26th. My tipster says owner, Bill Lockner, has “Thanks for 20 years”, and “Goodbye” written on his windows. The bar venue will be open until they run out scheduled entertainment.

A staple breakfast joint, Beaterville Cafe opened inĀ 1993, which makes it an institution in these parts. The cafe is known for being an easy going nostalgic restaurant, known for huge breakfasts, good music, and a decor of collectibles and car parts. Even better, there is a nice fenced patio in the back.

No word on anyone taking over the space.

Oh, how my husband and I will miss this place! We moved to Portland in 2005, and have been enjoying the occasional breakfast there ever since. It’s the BEST breakfast in this whole town! Oh, Beaterville, you will be missed!

Beaterville, you meant hometown to us. To a family in love with Americana, with beater cars, with funny beautiful old ads, you were special. You brought a small town feel to our corner of this big town right through the boom. You grounded us, three generations: father took daughter, daughter took son, and father of daughter took grandson too. Weekend days when we were beat, had the cash, and wanted no-hassle, big friendly plates. The grandson is a strapping thirteen now, thanks in part to having his little face full of french toast and bacon those days when we were too tired to cook- and face full of the wonder that makes us all three creatively and mechanically inclined. Thanks for a great run!
