Who can say no to “spurtle”

June 21, 2012 by PDX Food Dude 1 Comment

Some press releases I just can’t pass up. Case in point, “Bob’s Red Mill Spar for the Spurtle.”

…Bob’s Red Mill’s second annual Spar for the Spurtle 2 Oatmeal Recipe Contest which invites home cooks and professional chefs alike to submit videos demonstrating a unique recipe that makes use of Bob’s Red Mill’s Steel Cut Oats – the World’s Best Oatmeal. Upon final selections by Bob’s Red Mill, three finalists will be flown to Portland, Ore. to compete in a live cook-off in early August. The winner of the cook-off will receive an all-expenses-paid trip for two to Scotland, including $2,500 in cash, to help represent team Bob’s Red Mill in the 19th Annual Golden Spurtle World Porridge Making Championship this October!

The deadline to submit entries in the Spar for the Spurtle contest is July 20, 2012. Full details and images are available here and also on the contest website. Additional information also can be found on Bob’s Red Mill’s Twitter and Facebook pages.

So let me see if I’ve got this right. They will fly me, Food Dude(!) to Portland, Ore. to compete? I so want to become one of the finalists, fly somewhere exotic like… Grand Island Nebraska, and make them fly me back to Portland.

(I spent a week in Grand Island Nebraska one night. It’s a great story, and if I could figure out a food angle, I’d tell it. I will spare you the details at this time)

Anyway, if you think you have an award-winning spurtle, contact the good people at Bob’s Red Mill right away. No, I normally only put benefits on the front page of the site. They did not sponsor this post.
