13th Annual Bites for Rights Today!

By PDX Food Dude Last Update January 17, 2014 1 Comment

Bites for RightsBRO’s most delicious fundraiser of the year held at 115 spots across Oregon

(Portland) – More than 100 restaurants, coffee shops, carts, bars and bakeries around the state will support equality tomorrow by donating a portion of their day’s proceeds to Basic Rights Oregon.

“By dining out June 21st, you can support Basic Rights Oregon’s efforts in transgender justice, racial justice and the freedom to marry, as well as sending a powerful message to business owners that supporting LGBT is good business,” explains Juan Martinez, development director for Basic Rights Oregon.

Equality-minded diners can participate in towns across Oregon including Ashland, Astoria, Bend, Corvallis, Eugene, Manzanita and more. A long list of Portland-area establishments take part each year, from restaurants like Byways Café and Mother’s Bistro, to dessert spots like Cupcake Jones, bars like the Local Lounge, and food carts like Big Ass Sandwiches.

“We participate each year in Bites for Rights because it’s the right thing to do,” said Cupcake Jones’ Lisa Watson. “The work that BRO does throughout the year toward equality and inclusion is very important to us and to our friends and families. Bites for Rights gives us and our customers an opportunity to support BRO and support like-minded businesses, too!”

“This is really a team effort,” says Martinez. “We’re so thankful to the supportive businesses who make this possible each year, but it can’t be a success without our supporters taking part.”

Make a day of it by dining on equality all day long! For a full list of participating restaurants and more information, visit www.basicrights.org/events/bites-for-rights
