What Are the Most Romantic Restaurants in Portland? – and More News

By PDX Food Dude Last Update May 8, 2017 19 Comments

A reader poses the question, “What are the most romantic restaurants in Portland 2006“.

Much of what constitutes romance is objective, but what do you think? Some of my favorites:

    • Alba Osteria and Enoteca
    • Alberta Oyster Bar and Grill
    • Andina
    • Fenouil in the Pearl
    • Fratelli Cucina
    • Paley’s Place
    • Metrovino

    Added from the comments:

    • Carlyle
    • Giorgio’s
    • Beast
    • Aquariva

    What do you think?

Paley’s. Intimate setting, personal service, great food. Granted, haven’t been to all. Fratelli has a good atmosphere but not impressed with food. Andina is too noisy to be considered romantic, but I’m in love with the food and presentation.

Paley’s is my number one. I think Andina can be romantic on a slow night, especially late. I’ve had a few romantic times in the bar – unfortunately I was alone ;>) Some have told me Alba.

I, too, get romantic with myself. Good to know there are others out there like me.

Oh no. Tell me you didn’t say that.

Oh no, that’s not what I meant! You people – right to the gutter!

What I meant is I was thinking, “This would be totally romantic with the right person”. Come on… pisco sours, tapas, the Brazilian Jazz trio, good lighting (I love a restaurant that has good enough lighting to read the menu, but still manages to flatter the people sitting).

Romantic in the “with the right person” sense. Excellent food, quiet environment, elegant service and great ambience:

      Carlyle
      Giorgio’s
      Paley’s Place
      Fenouil

Very much agree on Carlyle and Paley’s. The others? Eh. Depends on a whole host of factors including number of cocktails consumed and the presence/absence of the dreaded food coma.

Agreed on Carlyle and Paley’s. Need to find out with Alba.

Don’t forget Hurley’s for an elegant French dinner with excellent service and relaxing environment. Fratelli has been good over the years for birthdays and anniversaries. Agreed on Giorgio’s.

Don’t get me wrong, Choux–I love Alba. I’ve waxed poetic on the tajarin many times…Alba has excellent food, great service, and inevitable food coma. therein lies the problem.

Is Baraka closed permanently? I was up there this past weekend, and they had a sign on the door saying something like “We’ll be closed until the landlord fixes the leaking roof and water damage,” and that made it sound somewhat temporary.

The sexiest thing about the Graze website is the Pastry Chef, without a doubt.

That Graze website made me double over with laughter. I can only hope that the food is better than the menu suggests.

I walked by Baraka yesterday and their “we’re closed becuase of a water leak” sign has changed to “we’re closed because of the landlord never fixed the water leak and we had black mold!” And they were loading up their pinball machines and office furniture into a van.

That’s disgusting. And short-sighted: do you really want to announce to your once-and-future dining public that you’ve been serving food from a place plagued with black mold? And that the way you deal with landlords is to leave digs at them in public places?
