News today that Belly Restaurant on MLK is closing
Dear friends, fans and family of belly restaurant,
As we sat down to renew our lease options after serving you for three years, we came to the hard decision to close our doors. Our last day of service is Saturday April 16th.
We live in NE PDX and believe in this neighborhood and encourage you to frequent the gems that are along this corridor of MLK.
We want to thank our loyal neighborhood regulars for their belly evangelism over the years. We believe that the craft of serving others is a noble one and have to give mad love to our amazing staff who worked beside us to build something memorable and rewarding for us as owners.
What will we do now? We inherit more time with our four-year-old daughter and we continue to revel in the great city we live in.

I’m not surprised at this closing, but it’s sad to see another failure.

This is really sad; we only recently discovered Belly, and we’ll really really miss it. It was excellent. Sadness…

We’ve been eating at Belly since not long after it opened and loved it. I wondered how long it would last early on because of the slim crowds. Business seemed to pick over time but apparently not enough. For us, Belly struck the right balance with good, fresh, thoughtful but not overly pretentious dishes. We will miss it.

I reviewed Belly on my website several months ago. It is a gem and we have been back several times. When asked by my clients which restaurants I like, Belly is always my first recommend. I am very sad to hear this news.

I am sorry to hear about this loss to the food community. But I would like some of these establishments to consider the concept of having all the good places in a close proximity. I live in Forest Grove recently opened Strecchino seems to be doing well and the folks out here who love food are delighted to have their own hallmark place to go. For us to drive every week to PDX to dine is ridiculous…why not open in Hillsboro or even Beaverton who could use some distinctive original food culture there are plenty of people out here that have respectable palates and would delight in neighborhood fare. Many city goers like the adventure of going on the Max out to Syun..broaden your horizons chefs!! You will find plenty of people who appreciate your effort…not all diners have to be young and hip. We are almost starving out here! (exceptions noted along with Dundee area)

Agreed, I live in Vancouver and Brad Root has opened fabulous restaurants north of the river. We frequent them often and still like to make the short trip to PDX to dine out.

Try Decarli on Watson in Beaverton.
