    Fire at Wildwood Restaurant Portland

By PDX Food Dude Last Update July 27, 2016 Leave a Comment

My sources tell me there was a grease fire at Wildwood this afternoon. Filled the place with nasty smoke. If you have reservations this week, you might want to call first. On the other hand, the meats should have a nice smokey flavor.

December 26th, 2005 @ 9:54 pm I was sitting on the stoop at Paley’s at 4:52pm this afternoon when I saw a six foot tall pillar of flame shoot out of Wildwood’s roof. There was a guy standing out in front of Anna Bananas, and I asked him if that flame was supposed to be there. He said he was calling 911. I started across the street to warn the staff that their building was on fire, but they started filing out before I made it across the street. Pretty exciting stuff.

December 26th, 2005 @ 10:18 pm Which, by the way, is a really stupid thing. A grease fire coming through the roof means the suppression system failed (unlikely if people were there), or, they aren’t getting things cleaned/inspected. I happen to have a background on these things.Bad!

December 27th, 2005 @ 12:29 pm Sign on their front door this morning says they’ll be closed the 27th and 28th. Guess it wasn’t as bad as i thought.

      December 30th, 2005 @ 9:35 pm Mr. FoodDude,
I have read and heard some stories on the grease fire at the Wildwood. As bad as the economy is going to be from Jan 1 to mid April for the restaurants in the hood, I hope they will be back in the spring or sooner.
    • Food Dude:
December 30th, 2005 @ 10:20 pm Coffeetrader – from the wildwood site:WILDWOOD RESTAURANT WILL BE OPEN FOR LUNCH & DINNER FRIDAY,
DECEMBER 30TH, & FOR DINNER ON NEW YEAR’S EVE.

The restaurant will be closed January 1-5, 2006 for routine maintenance.
LUNCH & DINNER SERVICE WILL RESUME FRIDAY, JANUARY 6TH.

Sounds like the damage may be a bit more then they said.

December 31st, 2005 @ 1:25 am That break has been scheduled for a while-remodeling bathrooms and a few other tune ups plus they always close Jan. 2 for their holiday party.
