Gotham Tavern Closed

April 29, 2006 by PDX Food Dude Leave a Comment

Updated: 1:18pm

Gotham Building Tavern has closed. As in, no longer doing business. I’m still trying to confirm details, but have been told by two sources that Friday was the last night. More to come.

It seemed like a nice day for some exercise, so I took a bike ride across the bridge and somehow ended up in front of GBT. Doors are open but all the tables and chairs are in their cleaning position. There is what looks like ex-employee graffiti across the windows.

Thanks to Stretch and exGBT for the tips!

“Ex-employee graffiti” is actually “happy birthday Gabe”, Gabe being the sous-chef who had his birthday party there last night.

I think Karen Brooks and Mike “mczlaw” Zusman should re-open it and sell trendy bagels.
I’d be the first one in line.

Once again, it’s people in the streets. I hope they can find jobs fast. I am so sorry for them and Tommy Habetz. He’s one of the best.

Any smart restaurant owner in need of a wonderful chef should grab Habetz immediately. Or perhaps he’ll open his own place.

Habetz was a part owner of Gotham. It will be interesting to see if he get’s his own financing to reopen or something. I would be curious to see what he could do without the distraction of Tommy and company politics. Before they spiraled down into pub food, he put out some brilliant dishes.

Maybe if they’d dump those ugly lights, tear down the birdcages so they could seat more, and do something about the lincoln log wall, they could make a go of it.
