Family-run landmark to close doors December 28, 2014.
PORTLAND, Ore. — December 16, 2014 — One of Portland’s oldest family-run Chinese restaurants, Hunan Restaurant, will close after 35 years in downtown Portland.
Located in the historic Morgan’s Alley, Hunan Restaurant – with it’s traditional red and gold decor, live fish tanks and specialties like General Tso’s chicken – first introduced Portlanders to the experience of Chinese food in the late 70‘s and has served as both a special occasion destination for Portland families and a lunchtime staple for downtown workers since then.
“The Liu family has served generations of Portlanders through the years and their restaurant is a downtown landmark. We want to honor that by making sure that those who have special memories can say goodbye to David and his family before the restaurant closes.” Says Tom Kilbane, a partner at Urban Renaissance Group and manager of the Morgan Building and Morgan’s Alley.
Mr. Liu says his decision to close the restaurant was a difficult one necessitated by health issues. Final lunch and dinner service at Hunan is set for Sunday, December 28.
About: Hunan’s Chinese Restaurant, located at 515 SW Broadway, Portland, OR 97205, has been serving up Chinese-American fare since 1979. For more information please visit http://www.hunanpdx.com/.

They wanted to revamp and upgrade their kitchen but the PMC that controls Morgan’s Alley was only willing to offer a month to month lease.

So sad and shame on you Morgan Alley; it not like your property is booming. I would like to get in touch with them, how do I accomplish this? They are part of so many of our histories and our children!!!!
