    James Beard Awards – Final Finalists Finally Announced

    James-beardIt seems like this will never end. The James Beard Awards finalists were announced today. Here are the Portland Nominees:

    Books – Vegetable Focused and Vegetarian Cookbooks:
    Roots, by Diane Morgan

    Books – Single Subject:

    Modern Sauces: More than 150 Recipes for
    Every Cook, Every Day, by Martha Holmberg

    Books – Baking and Desserts:

    Flour Water Salt Yeast: The Fundamentals
    of Artisan Bread and Pizza, by Ken Forkish (Ten Speed Press)
    Outstanding Pastry Chef:

    Ken Forkish, Ken’s Artisan Bakery, Portland

     

    Best Chef – Northwest:

    Naomi Pomeroy, Beast, Portland
    Gabriel Rucker, Le Pigeon, Portland
    Cathy Whims, Nostrana, Portland

    Up against: Jason Franey, Canlis, Seattle and Ethan Stowell, Staple & Fancy Mercantile, Seattle.

    The winners will be announced Monday May 6th at Lincoln Center in NYC
