Martha Holmberg has been largely responsible for building the Oregonian’s MIX Magazine into a slick, interesting publication. Today she sent out the following note, confirming the rumors that have swirled over the past few months.
Most of you knew this was in process thanks to my mutterings over recent months, but it’s now official — I’m leaving as editor after the February issue.
I love MIX like crazy, and I love working with all you guys, but I think it’s a great time for me to say good-bye. It’s too much to try to manage — even for an over-extender like me — with a full time job and a cookbook etc (plus I’ve heard about this thing called “a life” and it might be fun to try one). Not to mention that the tight-rope between the magazine and Watershed was too delicate to be sustainable for much longer, anyway.
And mostly, I’ve done it — I’ve been the editor for 3 1/2 years, and I now I’m ready to NOT be the editor.
The good news is that Danielle Centoni is going to take my place — most of you probably know her, but for those who don’t, she’ll be super-great. She’s creative and loves food and is energetic and very, very nice, so you’ll enjoy working with her and helping her move the magazine forward. I’m really proud of MIX and how good it is…
I’ve enjoyed MIX Magazine, and wish Martha the best at Watershed (a PR company).

Sad to see Martha leave the magazine. I had just sent her an email commenting on how much I enjoyed the latest issue without even being aware of the rumors.

I heart Martha Holmberg, one of the very best editors I’ve written for: professional, funny, quick; curious. Total pro. She will be sorely missed in the editorial world.

Martha Holmberg will be sorely missed.. MIX will never be the same without her thoughts steering it. But I’ll still see her around. She’s a popular woman so she’ll still be all over the industry. I have high hopes with Centoni. I know the mag will still be as good w/ her.
