    Martinotti’s Cafe & Deli Closing

By PDX Food Dude Last Update December 17, 2017 3 Comments

The Oregonian reports that Martinotti’s, a downtown fixture since 1978, is closing. Martinotti’s is kind of like a family run Italian/European “general store”, stocking lots of cooking ingredients, supplies and hard to find wines. The store is a victim of Portland’s ever-increasing rents. The Martinotti’s are hoping to open a new location in another part of Portland.

They should open that on Alberta St. There’s nothing like that on Alberta. They could even do it in the old Al Forno Ferruzza space I would think.

Frank, say it ain’t so. I had no idea that this would ever happen. Have you opened up a new store yet? Where am I going to get all the cheeses & meats on my semi-annual trips to Portland? This news is very hard to take.

Hi, I am stricken! Came downtown for my usual Christmas purchases including your delicious, special homemade biscotti and discovered your store gone. My husband, Pete, and I came every year that you’ve been in existence. We married in 1974 and his Italian heritage drew him to you when you opened and he introduced me to so many items that I had never tasted in my life. He went to Heaven in 2013. I will miss you as a very special link to him and also because there is no other store as unique and special for everything Italian as yours. Will you reopen soon? I heard you might be considering this. I would love to buy some biscotti if you are making some this year for personal use. Thanks for all the wonderful memories over the years!!! Kathy
