Nuvrei Expansion Nears Completion

August 4, 2011 by PDX Food Dude 3 Comments

Nuvrei sells wholesale to many of Portland’s cafés and restaurants, so you might already be familiar with their brioches, chocolate chew cookies, and cinnamon rolls. Yet, Nuvrei also has a little storefront in the Pearl District basement hidden on NW 10th Ave. Now a long-awaited expansion is nearing completion, with the opening scheduled for late August.

The popular baked goods source for many of Portland’s coffeehouses will move its operations upstairs, adding a larger retail space with a small counter overlooking NW 10th avenue. If all goes well, about eight tables will be available along the street. The menu will be expanded to include more extensive offerings such as salads and sandwiches. Coffee will be from Coava.

Nuvrei owner Marius Pop worked under François Payard in New York before returning to Portland to open his own shop.

Nuvrei is located at 404 NW 10th Avenue, Portland OR. 97209. You’ll know you are there by the aroma of baking pastry.

“You’ll know you are there by the odor of baking pastry.”

….how about aroma? Odor has such a bad connotation to it. Quite surprised to see this word chosen over the other.

Whatever…….not a person can walk by that place and not comment on the delicious smells that waft up from the windows semi hidden by the grates. The caneles (newest addition) and blueberry muffins have been pretty stellar of late. Looking forward t see how this shapes up. Thanks for the heads up.
