Portland Farmers Market Closing Buckman Location

By PDX Food Dude Last Update December 22, 2015 Leave a Comment

Portland Farmers Market has announced its decision to permanently close its Buckman neighborhood market, which was open Thursday afternoons  at SE 20th Ave and Salmon Street in the parking lot of Hinson Baptist Church.

While Portland Farmers Markets’ other locations have experienced stable and in some cases growing shopper visits and sales over the years, the Buckman Market has experienced a consistent decline in shopper counts since 2010. As a result, vendor interest in the market has waned. Portland Farmers Market assumed responsibility of this neighborhood farmers market in 2006 from a local community group who opened it in 2003. Today, neighbors can shop at more than 10 grocery stores and heathy food markets within a two-mile radius around the Buckman location.

“We deeply appreciate the loyal shoppers who have supported our market over the past 11 seasons. Hinson Baptist Church has also been a generous and understanding landlord,” said Trudy Toliver, Executive Director of Portland Farmers Market. “We hope that our shoppers will continue to purchase locally grown and produced food at the People’s Farmers’ Market located at the People’s Food Co-op and at other area farmers markets.”
