Portland Nominations Fall Flat at James Beard Awards

May 4, 2015 by PDX Food Dude 1 Comment

The winners of the 2015 James Beard Awards were announced this evening. Three Portland chefs were in the competition for Best Chef Northwest, but in the end, the awards went to other nominees.

That doesn’t matter – these Portland chefs have continued to shape and refine our food scene: Greg Denton and Gabriel Quiñónez of Ox restaurant, and Justin Woodward of Castagna. I was glad to see them in the running.

Local critic Karen Brooks of Portland Monthly Karen Brooks was in the running for the Craig Claiborne Distinguished Restaurant Review Award, but it went to Ryan Sutton of Eater.

It’s cool that they were recognized with the nominations. Onward, Rose City!
