<UPDATED>
I’ve heard from Fivespice –
Hello, I am the GM of Fivespice Tim Mattera. I guess we can all have dreams like that to hire line cooks and Sous Chef with that kind of experience, but I can assure you that we did not post that ad, but we can always need a good line cook.
From Craigslist:
Five Spice Seafood and Wine bar hiring BOH (Lake Oswego)
Sous Chef
Candidates must have a minimum of five years experience in serious fine dining. Two years Michelin star restaurant experience is a plus for an easy transition into our day to day production. Culinary degree is also a great plus, but not necessary. Experience in assisting with inventory control, ordering, all forms of butchery, charcuterie and you must be highly organized and clean. The menus will be changing very frequently once we hit our stride so there is a lot of room for creativity and experimentation. We have one sous chef in place and will grow to a three to four sous operation. We will be executing a blend of modern and classic cooking techniques. This is a very serious position in a serious restaurant.
Line Cook
We need serious line cooks with fine dining background; fine dining being – a restaurant with a three star rating or higher or Michelin stars. If you don’t have these experiences do not apply. There is opportunity to contribute to menu development as you will be the chef of your station under the guidance of the Chef and Sous
Goodness. I don’t even know what to say. Good luck?
Emphasis mine.

Well, it’s good to have goals…

If they could get that kind of help, the labor cost alone would be insane.
Ellen Green says
A least they are not asking for $5.00 to just look at your resume, heh….

Ferran Adria has closed elBulli. I don’t think he is doing anything right now. Would he be a qualified applicant?
John says
Maybe they mixed up Michelin with Zagat! Just a small slip . . . .
laura says
haha or Michelin with Yelp?
Kai Jones says
Is this credentialism, like asking for a college degree for a job that doesn’t require one? Just to minimize the number of resumes they have to look at?

Will they also have three GM’s covering the FOH? : )

If the management of FiveSpice did not post that ad, then who did? More importantly, why?
JandJ says
Sure sounds like it could be a rather unhappy ex-employee. If so, I’m sure getting it re-posted here as well was an unexpected “bonus” for that person.

I’m sure it was sarcasm, but if any restaurant did aspire to hire staff like that and did.. I’d try it. So if the original intent of the Craigslist ad was to get people not to eat there, I think the attempt was unsuccessful because now my interest is piqued.
