I'm not sure why this survey question didn't get more responses. Perhaps only 284 of you like a quiet dinner. I know restaurant psychologists say that a noisy restaurant not only makes people feel like they are part of something, but also tends to make diners eat faster, which helps turn table. Anyway, here are the results: 1. Paley's Place - 1204 Northwest 21st Ave. Portland, … [Read more...] about Reader Survey 2012: The Best Restaurant for a Quiet Conversation

Out of 338 votes cast, the "winners" are Nostrana (by a … [Read more...] about Reader Survey 2012: Lousy Service in What is Otherwise a Good Restaurant
Reader Survey 2012: Best Place to Get Barbecue in Portland
This category is a landslide every year; I don't know why I bother. I'm not going to waste your time with hyperbole - you'll get plenty of that with my review. As far as the winner goes, the only negative comments I have heard out of all the survey questions this year is that service can be an issue. I've never experienced that myself, but I tend to go early. I will say that … [Read more...] about Reader Survey 2012: Best Place to Get Barbecue in Portland
Reader Survey 2012: This Restaurant is Coasting on its Reputation
I love this question. Though I inevitably get nasty letters for including it, I think it is a good predictor of the Portland restaurant scene, and I love to watch how various restaurants come and go over the years. I also appreciate how difficult it must be for a restaurant to change a damaged reputation. Case in point, Bluehour. It floundered towards downright lousy under the … [Read more...] about Reader Survey 2012: This Restaurant is Coasting on its Reputation
