Reader Survey 2012: The Best Restaurant for a Quiet Conversation

I’m not sure why this survey question didn’t get more responses. Perhaps only 284 of you like a quiet dinner. I know restaurant psychologists say that a noisy restaurant not only makes people feel like they are part of something, but also tends to make diners eat faster, which helps turn table. Anyway, here are the results:

1. Paley’s Place – 1204 Northwest 21st Ave. Portland, OR 97209  Map  (503) 243-2403. My review

2. Castagna – 1752 SE Hawthorne Blvd, Portland OR 97214  Map  (503) 231-9959

3. Bar Avignon – 2138 SE Division St., Portland OR 97202  Map  (503) 517-0808

4. Grüner – 527 Southwest 12th Ave., Portland, OR 97205  Map  (503) 241-7163  My Review

5. Kir Wine Bar – 22 Northeast 7th Avenue Portland, OR 97232. Map (503) 232-3063

My vote went to Castagna.

I couldn’t agree more: Grüner does not belong here. Not in the least.

I can’t help but wonder if people were thinking more of lunch at Gruner rather than dinner.
