    The Free House Bar Closes

By PDX Food Dude Last Update March 16, 2014 5 Comments

The Free House, a great little neighborhood spot at 1325 NE Fremont St., is out of business. The sign on the door says closed for remodel, under new management” and the Free House sign is gone. Looking inside, the beer taps and reach ins are pulled out of the bar and have been set against the far wall. I can’t quite make out what is going on, but I did see a legal pad inside and the notes on it were “Insurance – Chefstable”. Thought that was interesting to say the least. According to my records, the business opened in July of 2009.

The OLCC transfer doesn’t give much information, though it does show a name change from “The Free House Bar” to “The Free House”:

    TEAM ME LLC
    Premises #: 45709 License #: 164764 License Revenue #: 0 Date Entered: 01/24/2012
    Tradename: THE FREE HOUSE BAR
Address: 1325 NE FREMONT ST, PORTLAND
    License Type/Act: F-COM / C/O
    Premises #: 45709 License #: 164764 License Revenue #: 0 Date Entered: 01/24/2012
    Tradename: FREE HOUSE
Address: 1325 NE FREMONT ST, PORTLAND

    License Type/Act: F-COM / C/TN

Prior Tradename: THE FREE HOUSE BAR

Your snooping techniques need work :)

The whole OLCC app is online: http://www.portlandonline.com/oni/index.cfm?c=48007&a=382825

It lists the new owner as Martin Schwartz of Team Me, LLC. (Oregon Business Registry confirms this http://egov.sos.state.or.us/br/pkg_web_name_srch_inq.show_detl?p_be_rsn=1560354&p_srce=BR_INQ&p_print=FALSE)

A google search will tell you Martin Schwartz is one of the owners of Olympic Provisions. It could be a different Martin Schwartz, but olympicprovisions.com is registered (http://www.whois.net/whois/olympicprovisions.com) to a Martin Schwartz with the same gmail address listed on the application, so it probably isn’t.

Well I am doing this and watching the game at the same time! I don’t multitask well when football is on :)

Thanks for the info. I did hear a rumor about Schwartz

I was walking by last night and the place has reopened. No signage though.
