Time For Another Round: Your Favorite Mid-Priced Restaurants

By PDX Food Dude Last Update November 27, 2017 70 Comments

Time for you to weigh in. What are your favorite mid-priced restaurants?

A few months ago, everyone nominated their top five higher priced restaurant for our Recommended List. Now it’s time to add your mid-priced choices. Don’t worry too much about price ranges, I will get that straightened out later.

    So… nominations?

PS. Yes, the people in that thumbnail are all eating while sitting on toilets. The drinking fountains are urinals. The bowls bedpans. You get the drill. What will these crazy Japanese think of next?! I, for one, and not in a hurry to eat there.

We just had food from the new menu at 50 Plates and it was great. The salisbury steak with mushrooms and bread pudding was one of the best dishes I’ve had at a mid-prided restaurant.
      I also second Country Cat.
Toro Bravo is wonderful and Pok Pok must be on your list too. I would also include Navarre, which is really a bargain for what they serve.

Alba. Best pasta in Portland. All $11-$16.

Does it go without saying that Pok Pok would be on the top of this list?

      Beaker and Flask.

this is the category that as far as Portland goes, you could name 100 places! PDX shines in this category and trying to Narrow it down to a handful seems like doing a disservice to some pretty exemplary restaurants. That being said, my top 5:

      Beaker & Flask
      Tanuki
      Laurelhurst Market
      Apizza Scholls
      Yuzu

Ya know, looking at those 5, I would be pretty happy to end up on a desert island if those places where on there!

I’d add Pho’ An on Sandy (especially at this time of year, from October – April), but they’re probably in the price range below this one.

I have to agree….why is that? Gilt Club is always solid in every way. The service is always friendly, the food is always good, the ambience is awesome, I’ve never had a bad experience there. The place is always on my occasion list, especially when entertaining out of town guests. Good call!

That’s it! Piazza Italia is the name of that little Italian Place over by 24 Hour Fitness in the Pearl. I was always seeing guests overflowing onto the sidewalk during the summer and decided to give it a try one day. The pasta was the best I have had in this fair city. Outstanding!

I don’t know if Au Winebar would be considered mid priced, but if you don’t do too many small plates it could be. The food is 4 Star – seriously. A lot of chefs think unusual is 4 Star, so they put together some odd combination that doesn’t really work. Alu reminded me of the food that I got to taste all the time in a 4 Star restaurant that I worked in.

I’ve also had excellent food at Trebol. Mid-priced? Not sure. Both Trebol, and Alu are on restaurant.com Little secret shhh… so is Le Pigeon, but you have to get your coupon the first of the month before they are all gone. Side note – never pay full price for a restaurant.com coupon. get the code anytime at naughtycodes.com (don’t worry it’s not really naughty – just coupons and such)

Ken’s Artisan Pizza has the best Margarita Pizza in my humble opinion.
