    James Beard Semifinalists 2013 Announced

By PDX Food Dude Last Update March 11, 2015 Leave a Comment

As every year about this time, the James Beard Foundation announced its huge list of semifinalists for the 2013 Restaurant and Chef awards. While the list includes plenty of local chefs and restaurants, no Portland restaurants are nominated in the “Best Restaurant” section. Note that Portland also did not get any nominations for “Best Service” (gasp).

For maximum press coverage, each category starts out with a huge number of nominations, which are then whittled down to five semi-semi finalists to be announced on March 18th.

The “absolutely no more-this is it folks-really we mean it” finalists will be awarded Monday, May 6 at Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center, NYC.

Here are the nominees as they now stand:

    Best New Restaurant: Ox
    Outstanding Bar Program: Clyde Common
Outstanding Chef: Vitaly Paley, Paley’s Place
Outstanding Pastry Chef: Ken Forkish, Ken’s Artisan Bakery
Rising Star Chef of the Year: Justin Woodward, Castagna
Outstanding Wine, Spirits, or Beer Professional: Stephen McCarthy, Clear Creek Distillery

Here are the Oregon nominees for Best Chef Northwest:

Greg Denton and Gabrielle Quiñónez Denton, Ox
    John Gorham, Toro Bravo
    Naomi Pomeroy, Beast
    Gabriel Rucker, Le Pigeon
    Adam Sappington, The Country Cat
    Cathy Whims, Nostrana
Justin Wills, Restaurant Beck, Depoe Bay, OR

Congratulations to all the nominees! You can see the entire national list  here.
